The Complete Guide to Reading Meditations

Meditations X.3

All that befalls either so befalls as thou art fitted by nature to bear it or as thou art not fitted.5 If the former, take it not amiss, but bear it as thou art fitted to do. If the latter, take not that amiss either, for when it has destroyed thee, it will itself perish. Howbeit be assured that thou art fitted by nature to bear everything which it rests with thine own opinion about it to render bearable and tolerable, according as thou thinkest it thy interest or thy duty to do so.
